Twenty Year Medal Table for Canoe Slalom

Summer Olympic Games 1996 – 2012

Slalom canoeing 2012 Olympics W K1 AUS Jessica Fox

Of all the Summer Olympic sports, canoe slalom is the one for which facilities are of most importance. It is impossible to win a medal without practising on a high quality artificial course. Slovakia has the world’s second oldest, in Liptovsky Mikulas, and it is not a coincidence that Team World member, Michal Martikan, was born in the town.

Togo’s medallist, Benjamin Boukpeti, grew up in France, which has more courses than any other country. Australia’s rise was helped by the venue built for the Sydney Games though Jessica Fox’s parentage is also a factor. Her father, Richard Fox of Great Britain, and her mother, Myriam Fox-Jerusalmi of France, have 18 world titles between them.
