Twenty Year Medal Table for Freestyle Skiing

Winter Olympic Games 1998 – 2014

The quirky event of aerial skiing is dominated by just three countries, none of which is particularly mountainous, and none of which is a winter sports power: China, Belarus and Australia. The reason is that skiing plays a small part in what is really an acrobatic event, suiting former gymnasts or trampolinists. In the absence of an inflatable ramp, training is done indoors, with a landing in a swimming pool rather than on snow. After winning gold in 2002, Alisa Camplin fell over her skis as she went to talk to reporters.

French Canadian names dominate the moguls medal lists, because of growing interest and investment from Quebec. But the United States manages to sneak the overall top spot, as a result of success in the newer freestyle events influenced by snowboarding.
